Mamita Meher Case: In a major development in the case of Mamita Meher’s disappearance, a body was buried in an under construction phase at Mahalinga in Kalahandi district today.
The identity of the deceased could not be ascertained till the final report came. The police suspected Mamita Meher’s murder and buried her on the spot, the police started digging.
Mamita Meher’s family members were present on the spot when the body was found. Police sources said it would be sent to the laboratory for DNA testing.
Mamta Meher (24) of Jharni village in Turkela block of Odisha’s Balangir district was working as a teacher at Sunshine English Medium School at Mahalinga in Kalahandi district. Mamita Meher also worked as the warden of the girls hostel of the school. Mamita Meher went missing on October 8.
Mamita Meher’s family members had lodged a police complaint alleging their involvement in the disappearance of the school’s managing committee chairman Govind Sahu. Based on the FIR, the police took Sahu into custody for questioning. He was kept in the Titlagarh police barracks.
However, Sahu escaped from police custody on the night of 17 October. Sahu went to the bathroom on the pretext of washing his hands and then ran away. Balangir SP Kusalkar Nitin Dagudu suspended three constables for negligence in duty.
Mamita Meher was reportedly called by Sahu to come to school for official work. He was asked to come to Chandotara, where he would get a lift in the accused’s car. Reportedly, Mamita Meher reached Chandotara by bus but went missing after that. His mobile phone was switched off.
Mamita Meher’s family members have alleged that Sahu was sexually abusing the female staff of the school and forcibly having physical relations with her. Mamita Meher had recently warned Sahu to expose him and bring his illegal cases to the fore. The family members of the woman allege that she is behind Mamta’s disappearance.
An audio clip of Mamita Meher’s conversation between a colleague and her brother has also surfaced and has gone viral. In the clip, Mamita Meher’s aide can be heard informing his brother about Sahu’s involvement in the sexual harassment of female staff of the school.
His colleague was also telling his brother that Sahu had called him on the pretext of an official meeting a day before his disappearance.
The family members of the missing Mamita Meher had also alleged police inaction, claiming that the police were reluctant to arrest Sahu.
Mamita Meher’s brother Bunty has alleged that Sahu was running a sex racket in the school, which his sister was opposing and threatening to expose. She said that Sahu killed or kidnapped her.
Congress MLA from Kantabanji Santosh Singh Saluja demanded the resignation of Minister Divya Shankar Mishra as several photographs of the accused along with Mishra have surfaced. The minister had also attended a function at the educational institution.
